CULTURES OF RESISTANCE FILMS PRESENTS

HANDS OFF GAZA

The Israeli military’s Operation Cast Lead, a three-week assault on Gaza in late 2008 and early 2009, was a display of indiscriminate force against the entire civilian population in the territory. In response, politically engaged leaders of New York City’s hip-hop community gathered to denounce the invasion and stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza. As Dead Prez’s M1 said to a fired-up audience, “If you f*ck with Palestine, you’re f*cking with me.” Cultures of Resistance was at the gathering. This short film features excerpts from the performances as well as interviews with the artist-activists about the connections they draw between the Palestinian people’s quest for self-determination and their own social justice struggles.
